For starters, bankruptcy is growing by leaps and bounds, and there is a huge need for people that are skilled in drafting highly detailed and accurate bankruptcy petitions.

How long does it take to draft a bankruptcy petition?
When I drafted my first bankruptcy petition, it took about 5 hours, and I got paid $300 for the work. That’s about $60/hr.; not too shabby. After drafting about 5 petitions I was already getting faster at it, and could probably have gone back and drafted that first petition from scratch in half the time it originally took. This doubles the pay to $120/hr. The more you learn, the more you earn!
Every case is a little bit different, but with time and experience, most Chapter 7 bankruptcy petitions can be drafted in 2-3 hours. Chapter 13s have a couple of additional forms, so they take a bit longer, but bankruptcy assistants also get paid more for drafting Chapter 13s.
How much money can I make drafting bankruptcy petition documents?
Great question, because the answer to the question is very exciting!
Most of our students begin drafting petitions as a “side-hustle”, and increase their hours and income over the course of several months to a year.
How long does it take to become a proficient at drafting bankruptcy petitions?

What bankruptcy software do you recommend?
713training.com does not recommend or endorse any particular bankruptcy software product. Bankruptcy uses a certain set of forms and schedules, and all bankruptcy software complete these same forms. Whatever bankruptcy software the attorney has a license for, is the one that you would use to draft bankruptcy petitions.
Does this really work?
Absolutely! When bankruptcy laws changed in 2005, a higher level of skill became necessary to complete the bankruptcy forms. It has been proven that a highly-detailed and accurate bankruptcy petition is the cornerstone of the debtor bankruptcy law firm, and the attorneys that represent them in court.
Do attorneys really hire or contract people that work from home?
They sure do. Attorneys, especially those in smaller law firms, understand that it is much more cost effective to pay someone to work from home, than to hire in-office staff.
In addition, since 2020, remote work has become the norm in several industries, and legal is no exception.
Can I draft bankruptcy petitions for attorneys nationwide?
YES! Because the work is remote, once you learn the skills of preparing well-detailed bankruptcy petitions, you can work for attorneys in your local area or in any state within the U.S. This provides tremendous opportunity for either employment or running a bankruptcy assistant service.
We find that for most of our students, about half of their work comes from attorneys in their home state, and the other half comes from attorneys all across the country.
Do I need any insurance?
No. Bankruptcy assistants work under the direction of attorneys do not need insurance.
Licensed attorneys must abide by a Code of Regulations that state that THEY are ultimately responsible for any errors made by them, their legal staff, and contractors. Because the attorney bears the responsibility of liability, you DO NOT need any sort of errors and omissions insurance, bond, or liability insurance of any type, whether you are an employee of the law firm, or running your own bankruptcy petition drafting service.
What is bankruptcy petition certification?

What is an average day in the life of a bankruptcy assistant like?
The bankruptcy petition process begins when the attorney has their client fill out a questionnaire designed to gather information needed for the bankruptcy petition.
When the client has completed the questionnaire, the attorney sends it to the bankruptcy assistant who begins inputting the information into the bankruptcy petition.
The bankruptcy assistant will communicate with the attorney to obtain any additional information needed for the petition that was not provided in the questionnaire, and do additional research to support the data in the petition.
It takes training to uncover hidden assets and liabilities that many clients omit from their questionnaire due to their lack of knowledge in bankruptcy. This benefits the client and the attorney considerably, and is just one reason why many attorneys prefer to hire professionally trained bankruptcy assistants. The average law firm employee or paralegal has never received this level of training.
Once the petition has been completed, it is sent to the attorney for review.
After the attorney reviews the petition and supporting documentation, if the attorney requires any changes, they are communicated to the bankruptcy assistant who makes the requested changes, and returns the final petition to the attorney for approval.
When the attorney is ready, the bankruptcy petition is electronically filed with the court.
